The Oberammergau "Christmas market" is taken place on the 3rd and 4th Advent weekend and was carried out for the first time in 2009! The new founded market opens its booths on Friday from 15-19 hrs, on Saturdays from 12-19 hrs and on Sundays from 12-18 hrs. The response of this first Christmas market was so positive that the organizers decided for the continuation and a lasting institution of this event around the Pilatushaus and its beautiful frescoes. The Bavarian TV observed this completely successful Christmas market one hour long live, which attracted guests from Cologne, Nuremberg, Munich, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, also from the Allgaeu and even from Austria and Italy. Even from the Netherlands down to Tenerife we received a lot of E-mails with congratulations and we could read the enthusiasm all over. Visitors, exhibitors and also the TV-team praised this first Oberammergauer Christmas market organized with a lot of engagement, many of them even spoke that this market is generally the nicest one!

A winter fairytale pure and the many chains of lights as well as the luminous stars in the windows of the Pilatushaus produced a romantic atmosphere. The visitors had the chance to rally round the ground fires in smaller or larger groups thanks the generous distribution of the booths in order to mental interchange with mulled wine and sausage or other culinary delicacies. A variety of events like alpine horn players, trombone choir, brass band, choral society, Bavarian customs, a living crib or riding with a donkey provided a welcome entertainment for the visitors. Santa Claus and Christ child gave presents to the kids if they were not at the merry-go-round or took a round with the horse sledge. Angels received the wishing lists from the kids in the Christmas post office and ensured that the letters were transmitted to the Christ child with a specially designed postage stamp.

Many really impressed and reflected spectators left the theatre performance on Sundays in the Pilatushaus; the theme of the Christmas stress was very good selected and presented by the ensemble at its best. The winning play in the frame of the new initiated presentation of various cribs at different locations found many happy winners thanks a great number of open-handed business houses.

Because of their qualitative appealing articles were even the exhibitors pleased with the sales at the end which is mainly the basis for the continuation of this market. The exhibitors expressed their thanks and contentment at the end in form of a donation to the poor people of Oberammergau. The organizers are sure and this was also the echo in a second harvest of the exhibitors that a considerable number of booth tenants will be present again.
