The Oberammergauer Christmas Crib Way offers an atmospheric walk trough the village with the famous "Lüftlmalereien" (open air paintings). In this time presents the already 1836 foundet St. Lukasverein, which also organizes the Christmas Crib Way, stylish Christmas cribs as well as sceneries of the Christmas happenings in traditional Oberammergauer handicraft. Over 30 in private ownership master cribs are to be admired from end of November until beginning of January in the windows of the Oberammergauer business world. The majority of these so-called house cribs were over many decades and generations collected by the families and hardly not accessible for the general public.
Central scene of all this is also the Oberammergauer Museum with its famous "Kirchenkrippe" and the fine aquarelled paper cribs of the "Lüftlmaler" Franz Seraph Zwink. In the Pilatushaus ample decorated with al lot of "Lüftlmalereien" it is possible to watch the craftsmen how they originate in hard spade-work tiny figures, stables and other arts and crafts.
